Beena has been a Nurse for over 23 years and a Midwife for more than 15 years.

A Trinidadian born and bred, she studied Nursing with NIHERST using Port Of Spain General Hospital as her base. As a young Registered Nurse, she worked in the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex on Hibiscus Suite.

Having a yearning to study Midwifery, Beena travelled to England, to continue her studies. She gained her BSc in midwifery from The University of Brighton and then went on to do a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Midwifery Practice with The University of Surrey which included Childbirth Education, Consultancy and Ethics. She is a qualified “Midwife Examiner of The Neonate” which allowed her to carry out the examination and screening, normally undertaken by a paediatrician, to discharge baby from the hospital as well as many other accredited certificate courses to enhance her practice.

Her last role before leaving the UK was that of a Senior Midwife in Charge of a Midwifery led Maternity Triage Unit within a High Risk Maternity Unit with the aim of normalising birth, reducing the Caesarean section rates within the hospital but also to make sure that Women had direct access to a Midwife if they had any questions or concerns thereby making pregnancy Care and Information readily available to reduce risk, provide reassurance but to also to keep women safe in pregnancy and labour.

Beena has been teaching childbirth education in the UK in one form or another for 15 years.  She regularly taught antenatal classes, specialist classes for people having twins and multiple births as well as a class for at-risk teen mothers/parents.

She has completed a UK based Mindful Hypnobirthing Instructors Course with Mindful Mamma UK which is accredited by the Royal College of Midwifery.

She returned to Trinidad 6 years ago and worked in various public and private institutions including fertility clinics and in private hospitals offering maternity care.

Like many successful businesses’ Hello Baby! was born of a dream and a desire by Beena to help expectant couples cope and started very simply by having a few people ask her questions about what to expect and teaching them effective breathing techniques (unlike the ones on TV!) and answering question on the care of their baby. Upon realising that many childbirth or Lamaze classes in Trinidad were not properly preparing expectant parents, were not explaining to them that they had choices and were not giving unbiased information for women to become partners in their care with information adapted specifically to Trinidad and Tobago’s health care system, Hello Baby’s at home classes were born to provide a more affordable and accessible alternative for pregnant women. As the dynamic in the country began to change and more and more people (especially our ladies from Tobago and the region) asked if they could come to us we opened our studio in its central location so as to provide easy access to our clients from both north, central and south as well as those that come in from other countries.

Since our inception, Beena has strived to listen to what our clients want and need. She is continually developing new and innovative Information Sessions/Classes to suit you, like our mindful Hypnobirthing Class, our Early Pregnancy Class and Caesarean Section Preparation class which are all firsts in Trinidad and Tobago.

When it comes down to it our philosophy will always echo Beena’s steadfast belief that childbirth and pregnancy education must provide all the information, must be totally unbiased, must be evidence & researched based and be relevant and safe but must include a woman’s intuition and ancient wisdom of childbirth. Above all, it must be delivered with the expectant parents best interest at heart and must ALWAYS BE ABOUT YOU!
